1. Communication

Communication can be defined as a process where an exchange of thoughts, ideas or feelings takes place towards a common direction or goal between two parties. In academic discipline communication refers to all the different ways of communication and as such it is a huge body of knowledge.

Communication process involves encoding information and sending it to the receiver through different mediums. The receiver on the other hand decodes the information provided and sends a feedback. The most important aspect of communication is that the parties should have a common communication method. There are several communication means like auditory which includes speaking, tone of voice and singing and nonverbal which includes sign language, eye contact, touch and body language.

Words, voice tone and body language are the three major ways of communication. Several researches have found that body language which include eye contact, gestures and postures constitute 55% of communication process whereas voice tone constitute 38% and the kind of words used is just 7%. However, the actual percentage may vary slightly depending on the listener and the speaker.

If we consider language as a means of communicating with sounds, call voice and signals, then can communication between animals a language. Among animals, there is no written language, yet they communicate among themselves. In this sense, communication between animals can be said to be a different language.

Written and spoken languages among human beings are a set of symbols and there are rules, which manipulate these symbols. Most languages use gestures or sound for these symbols that help in communicating with other people.
