Communication skills

Regardless of whether one is into a business or day to day, life good communication skill is essential for smooth flow of ideas and information. Effective communication is nothing but conveying ideas and messages unambiguously. It also means receiving information the other person is conveying without any distortion.

Conveying messages and understanding them needs effort from the sender as well as the receiver. It is this process that is filled with errors where either party may misinterpret ideas. If this misinterpretation is not detected soon enough and efforts for resolving it are not taken the chances of confusion is high and there are bound to be missed opportunities on all sides.

To be a successful communicator one needs to understand the message he or she wants to convey and understand the targeted audience. Messages should be conveyed in a clear, accurate and concise way. Clarity of thought and confidence about the accuracy of the message conveyed are the most important attributes. Encoding of information is also an important aspect of skillful communication wherein there is correct interpretation of the meaning one wants to convey. Success in encoding information depends on foreseeing and doing away with the source of confusion. The key to this is to know the audience one is communicating with which if not taken care of will lead to messages being misunderstood.

So communication with other people is a skill especially in case of people who have not met each other. However, in case we are communicating face to face we have a chance of seeing the body language of the other person and quickly change the way we communicate to suit their understanding.
