World communication awards

The World Communication Awards, a prestigious award given to telecom operators throughout the world, recognizes the best telecom operators. The awards were first given out in 1999 and were recently held in London on 26 November 2008.  The award recognizes individuals who have been responsible for innovations, new services and achievements that have helped to build a better tomorrow for the people.

All telecom operators have a chance to win the awards whether it is a traditional career, multimedia provider, communication service provider or service provider. The focus of the award ceremony is on big issues like betterment of communication systems. The award encourages increasing number of entries both small and large from around the world so that the award represents the whole world.

The owners of Total Telecom, Terrapinn organizes this annual event and in 2008 the event saw fifteen categories of awards being presented. David Monony, is the chairman of the judges panel and he was the editor-in-chief of totalele.com in the past. Today he works in Ovum consultants as an analyst. 

The winners of the 2008 World Communication Awards include Turkcell, Bharti Airtel, Orange, Macquaire Telecom, Deutsche Telekon, PCCW Global, Telstra, O2, Roshan Telecom, Safaricom Ltd., Alcatel Lucent, VNL, BT Wholesale, Belgacom International Carrier Services and Etisalat. The person of the decade was awarded to the chairman of Apple, Steve Jobs.

Thus the World Communication Awards is presented to the best telecom operators of the world and recognizes their contribution to the development of society.
